Demoscene Simulator 0.5.0 Released
Hi everyone,
I've just released Demoscene Simulator 0.5.0, an indie simulation game inspired by the history and culture of the demoscene.
Instead of controlling characters directly, you run your own demo group: recruit members, develop productions, compete at parties, build your reputation, and follow the evolution of the scene across different years.
The project is written in TypeScript + Electron and has been evolving rapidly over the last few weeks.
New in 0.5.0
Competition & Party Simulation
Multi-judge scoring system with six different judging personalities
Audience reaction system ranging from legendary ovations to booing
Dynamic party events that influence competitions while they're happening
Production Development
Multi-scene demo creation
Multiple production types (Mega Demo, 64K Intro, 4K Intro, Music Disk, Cracktro, Slide Show)
Production timelines and release summaries
Scene variety and production-specific scoring
Scene History
Timeline currently spans from the classic era through 2026
Rival demogroups, sceners and party competitions
Hall of Fame tracking notable releases and awards
Development Tools
Integrated editors for game data and content
BBS simulation
Tracker music playlist support (.MOD/.XM via libopenmpt)
The long-term goal is to create a sandbox that captures the creative process surrounding demo production—not only coding effects, but also teamwork, deadlines, parties, releases, and the social side of the demoscene.
I'm also working on:
Expanded production editor
More historically accurate technologies by year
Additional demogroups and sceners
More production types and party events
A browser-based demoscene logo generator that may eventually become part of the simulator
Feedback from demosceners is very welcome, especially regarding authenticity and ideas for features that would make the simulation better represent real scene culture.
Thanks for taking a look!
