Group

Mocean

From a 2001 grab of their website on the Wayback Machine, "Back in 1990 there was this demo group Tronix with its members Iron, Madmax, Xaim, Runway, Powerslave, Mr. Crowley, Shape, Coyote, Wardog and Wraith. We had created some really big and quite good demos for a while, but we got no real appreciation for our efforts. The best result was a fourth place in the Horizon demo-competition in Eskilstuna. This party was the last for Tronix; Powerslave and Crowley had stopped producing, and Wardog and Wraith had never started dito (?). Some of us were thinking of starting a new group, perhaps a bit more serious - no aliases, make all stuff ourselves (i.e. music) and only release GOOD stuff (under the Tronix-label some lame stuff had been released aswell...). This was under a period when a lot of people from the demo-scene longed for legal productions - we had seen games from demo-coders and it was a big dream for all of us to make money out of all the time we spent in front of the computer. So we thought of something like a software-firm...something like Ocean (well-known game-producers) ... something like MOCEAN perhaps!?! It was Shape and Xaim who on the phone got this bright (...) idea. But as it turned out Xaim choosed to do something else (what?) and Mocean ended up with Berra (Runway), Madmax (Daniel), Coyote (Micke) and Shape (Richard). We also found out last year that Iron had released some stuff under the Mocean-label but of that we know nothing... As a first production we released HYDRARGYRUM at xx/xx/91. We don't know why but at this point Runway decided to leave the group. The next release was H2O, a three-file demo. As we unpacked our C64's after some years now, it sadly seems as if our master disc was wrecked and we have no back-ups!!! So, the first file isn't working and we dosen't even remember what it contained!.. Please look it up on your old discs, and mail it to us if you find it! After this demo Micke bought his Amiga and Richard and Daniel found out that work at school was more important to spend your time on. For the HZ-party in Huddinge (Stockholm) in xxxxxx -91 we released a little demo called HOLY SHIT. (The name is from a friend of Micke who had this demo-group called Holy Smoke... AAAH!) It was only 2 parts and an intro so we decided not to participate in the demo-compo. That was a mistake as almost no good demos was participating! Mostly it was some stupid fuckers with ridicolous demos with sexistic and rasistic jokes. Now we thought this was our last demo.

BUT... Micke had some kinda good parts left on one of his working discs! So for the Assembly-party -95 we packed them together to release them at the party. As my classmate Agamemnon of Troyz (Amiga) was going there and we weren't, we gave him a disc with the demo for him to bring along. I had to sit up all night to finish it and drove in the morning to his house to give it to him - and I made it just in time before he left! Great! But as he later got home I asked him about the disc and the competition... "Eeeh... I got so drunk that I forgot about it!" ... Bloody motherfucker ... So, here's your chance to see our last demo: GALLOSCH! Nowadays Richard is working as a programmer, Micke as an electrician and Daniel studies at high level. And none of us would ever dream of programming the C64 again (for more than an hour anyway) but we remember the computer, the scene and the nice atmosphere around it with tears in our eyes.It was a time that no-one will ever experience again - a bunch of kids world-wide exploring the inner of a computer more than anyone will ever do again, and creating TRUE ART!!!"
