This was a special edition of GC with the aim to write a tune based on a chip sample pack. Congrats go to Welti for pulling off 1st place!

Comments On First Place:

• this tune realy rox....there'z a nice use of the samplz and some realy cool melodies...it's the best in my opinion!
• psionis. utilized the samples we had the best imo, made sines sound like strings. pleasant melody, slightly dark = good. break in the middle is a great change, ethereal. 3/4 time (or is it 6/8) not often used in tracking. very nice tune. be proud.
• This song made fantastic use of all the samples. The results from what was done by the percussion alone was amazing; The melodies were great, the odd phrasing gave it a cool feel, and the stereo effects were excellent.
  One word: it glides. It seemed to catch my ear when I listened to it... well- done. I like the hihat fx, and the buildup just before the end (the triplet drumroll) is extremely cool. This song also wasn't nearly as repetitive as the others. Possibly this is the best tune of the bunch.

• psionis.it has well-written melodies, some unique ideas, excellent production (panning, the overall sound squeezed from the chip samples, and mixing) and it is a great piece of music.

• garfield.xm is a really nice tune. It reminds me of the old days of the Commodore and Amiga. This tune just make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This is just nostalgia and I love it! :)
• Composition and tracking are excellent, though it´s a very jolly and typical chip-tune. Loonie is pushing the borders of a genre :) The only not so strong point of the tune are drums and baseline, but this is not really a problem. And most important, this song is really very enjoyable!
• garfield.xm is by far the best tracked and nicest melody of all the tunes submitted this time. It's what I call a true chip tune. It had enough backing and things going on to keep my attention. psionis.it was quite good too, and the one thing it lacked was a bit of ooomph, and more backing..

• Nice tune altogether. Great volume control and samples didn't sound that bad. Better than the rest.

• This song sounds trancy, it's cool. In comparison with the others this song is simply the best. Cool use of the sounds, the composition is nice.

• Let's just say that I couldn't wait until the song ended. It lacked, how do you say, "Music." Sounded kinda like a 336 modem on steroids, or Celeron MMX.

• Perhaps the author couldn't figure out how to come up with a melody on his own. Kingsley should have a high score for GC23 since the song is nicely arranged here. At least hated.xm is original. (I would say that one is next- to-last.)

• What is this? hated.xm is just a bunch of rubbish. If you're going to enter, do so with a little style. Your tune doesn't have to be great but it shouldn't be like this. Sure, we've all made some lousy tunes but we've never bragged about it. So noone are worse at tracking than you so go away. Lie under a rock or do something else besides tracking. (Design the Groovy Compo logo.. Wasn't that what last place was supposed to do anyway?)
• Well, he asked for it. I must say, tha annoyance factor of this tune was pretty high, including the overuse of the "phone" sample and the general repetitiveness of the piece...
