My earlier assumption that a tool is required to convert the .mod file to sounds-of-wor format appears to be accurate. I examined the .exe file of production https://demozoo.org/productions/350944/ in a HEX editor and discovered the string "Converted with Modvert - (c)1998 NAPALM".
So now the question is, how do we obtain "Modvert"? :)
