The Meteoriks Awards 2017

The Meteoriks are back!

Just like in the previous years, the Meteoriks awards set out to honor the best productions of the year 2016, and again we're striving for a very open process from the beginning by letting everyone submit their ideas for award categories!

Only the award categories of New Talent and Public Choice will be fixed, all other categories will be picked by the jury from a pool of proposals. And that's two places where you come in!

PROPOSE CATEGORIES

Last year we had great proposals like "That's not possible on this platform!" that we would not have come up with by ourselves, so we rely on all of you to keep our categories fresh. You can submit further award categories via the Meteoriks website: https://www.meteoriks.org/categories

The deadline for proposing award categories is Thursday, January 19th.

JURY DUTY

"We" - right now that is just the Meteoriks organizing team. We cannot and should not decide on the categories, the award nominees and, ultimately, the winners of the Meteoriks Awards for 2017, and that's why we need **you** to sign up to be part of the jury! You know you want to!

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:

* Decide on a set of 10-ish categories out of the submissions amongst all jurors
* Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
* Identify up to five nominees
* Choose a winner
* One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

Still interested? Great, go here: https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror - and do it before Monday, January 23rd as that's our deadline for juror applications!

And so it starts! Head on to https://www.meteoriks.org/ and start participating!

This is going to be fun!

so, no "best music" ?

dojoe - 12:57 31 December 2016 #

Go ahead and propose it! No categories without your input ;)

(Though I happen to know we have "best soundtrack" in the moderation queue already.)

Asle - 16:41 31 December 2016 #

nah, you guys are great at what you do without my input :) Was just curious about the possible explanation, that's all.

dojoe - 16:34 2 January 2017 #

The explanation is that when you checked, nobody had suggested it yet -- and while we may be great at what we're doing (thanks!), without your input of category proposals we'd be nothing as we're crowdfunding our categories from almost-scratch. So keep em coming =)

**DEADLINE WARNING:** Submit your Award Categories by Thursday!

Still have that ingenious award category in your head that you were surely getting around to submitting any time soon? Do you keep wondering why nobody submitted "Best use of duck.3ds" yet?

Well, you have <quake announcer voice>THREE DAYS LEFT</quake announcer voice>. Category submission ends this Thursday, 2017-01-19, 23:59, so hurry up and get your idea in!

**CATEGORY SUBMISSIONS CLOSED**

The deadline for submitting award categories is over, and we ended up with 29 candidate categories thanks to your creative and wild ideas! Check them out: https://www.meteoriks.org/categories

There are a lot of really good ideas in there, and we're happy to see that they go far beyond the usual party categories of size and platform. It's going to be an interesting awards process!

**BECOME A JUROR**

We can't have all these categories in the awards show, of course, so we'll have to whittle them down to about ten-ish.

Do you have strong opinions on which category should make the final cut? Do some of the categories resonate with your taste in productions? Apply as a juror! You don't need to be a certified demoscene expert(TM), an opinion is all you need -- and we can really use the help.

The deadline for juror applications is on Monday night, Jan 23, 23:59, so drop whatever you're doing and apply here: https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror

**CATEGORIES FINALIZED**

Our jury has deliberated long and hard, and we have finally settled on a set of twelve award categories. This year, we are going to nominate and award productions in the categories of:

* Best Direction
* That's Not Possible On This Platform!
* Best High-End 4K Intro
* Best Storytelling / Storyline / Plot
* Interactive
* Best Freestyle Graphics
* Best Low-End Intro
* Best Soundtrack
* Best Low-End Demo
* Best High-End Demo
* New Talent
* Public Choice

Over the course of the next weeks, our jurors will wade through last year's productions and choose up to five nominees for each category. And you can help them by making sure your personal favorites are not overlooked! As of right now, you can head over to https://2017.meteoriks.org/taking_part/recommend and suggest productions for consideration in a category.

Big thanks to all who submitted category proposals or volunteered to be jurors! We couldn't do this without you!

**PUBLIC CHOICE VOTING OPEN**

Also, just like every year we have one category where **YOU** are the jury! The winning production in the Public Choice category is purely determined by your votes, so head on over to https://2017.meteoriks.org/taking_part/public_choice and make your selection! The voting deadline is **Monday, March 20, 23:59**, so vote today!

dojoe - 18:53 18 March 2017 #

**VOTING DEADLINE APPROACHES**

The End Is Nigh! The deadline for recommending prods to the jury and for voting in the Public Choice category is on **Monday, 2017-03-20, 23:59**, so be sure to get your voice counted before Monday night!

Do it now, not later -- it only takes a minute!

**VOTING DEADLINE EXTENDED**

https://2017.meteoriks.org/taking_part/public_choice

We have enough votes in the Public Choice category to come up with a result, but -- full disclosure -- it's not what we'd call "representative" yet, so we're extending that voting deadline until the end of the month! Don't leave us hanging here -- vote NOW!
