Unlike one might think at first glance, this is not a pro-Ukrainian picture, but instead the author picks up the Putinist narrative of children as victims of the "Kiev regime". The author is very open about this in an interview he gave to Russian Spectrum scene PDF magazine Scenegraphy (1/2024, p. 46), where he says (my translation):

"I intentionally sent this work to Forever because I was absolutely certain that they would not understand what this is about, so that I could push forward my position on their platform. At first glance, this looks like a typical anti-war work, and while it, on the whole, is one, only someone who is deep into the topic will understand that this work is a finger pointing at the horrible crimes of the Ukrainian state, the hypocricy and malicious joy of Europe, at the strength and the unbroken will of the Donbass people."
