$print was an early PC cracking group from the USA, Canada, plus at least one UK member and active from at least 1988-89.
It is linked to the (currently lost) USSR BBS software that was used by a number of Sprint affiliated boards. Two former Sprint members, King Cobra and Captain Caveman later wrote, USSR (Underground Software Systems Revolt) was written in 1986-88 (between then). It was based off the forum source code although much of it in the end was pretty well rewritten... and was only given to sysops who were part of a game releasing group called $print. But the author of LSD would counter with, The author of USSR gave the BBS out to a few people that were not in $print, but there were never more than 7 boards that ran the software..
The Oct 1989 release of Wipeout has: Greettings to all the other $Print member's out there..Captain Caveman, Ranger Rick, Warlord, Melignant Growth (great supplier's!), The Dragon Lord, Dr. Crunch, Wind Walker (your lucky you survived the quake!), King Cobra.
In Nov 1989 it merged with The PTL Club, UGC and others to become TRIAD (all caps), but who were unrelated to the more famous Commodore 64 group of the same name.
