Awesome work. Works perfectly at 0.5x and almost perfectly at 2x (mine only worked perfectly at 0.5x, 2x worked worse; it probably needs 1.5-1.8x better, or x2 without changing the pitch). Both versions are exactly as intended. Probably the best in the compo. I wonder how many hours it took to make?
This took me about 9 hours to make, not counting 2 hours I spent on the train to Saarbrücken testing out what elements of other tracks worked at 1/2x and 2x speeds. Looks like I started the REAPER project after I arrived at my hotel just after midnight, worked on it till about 05:40, slept, started working on it again at 13:36, and exported the final audio at 16:48.
There's also two or three tricks I'm using that I think are interesting here! I set up a subproject system in REAPER where I could compose the 2x version of the track at 400 BPM while periodically checking it against the 0.5x version. There's also some trickery to synthesize some additional harmonics in the 0.5x version, and add elements like the hi-hats and glitchy percussion to the 0.5x version that aren't audible in the 2x version. Hopefully I'll get the time to put together a blog post to talk about these tricks in more detail!
