How do you get psexe from ppf? I tried to run teh program but it doesn't work, or put the file on the program. Didn't work.

@ZETHorse: Many Paradox, Lightforce, and MUPS *.blk and *.ppf patches can be converted to a psexe using a tool called "ppf2psx." However, this method only works when the ppf contains the entire psexe and not just a differential.

If ppf2psx doesn't work, you'll need to purchase the game, create an ISO from the CD, apply the patch, and copy the SLUS/SLPM/SLES (whatever it's named) from the ISO/CD. This file contains the cracktro.

It's common for many patches to have an incorrect size in their PS-X EXE header. To determine if the psexe is valid, I open it in the Mednafen emulator. Mednafen displays an error if the size in the header doesn't match the file size, such as "0x800 bytes of extra data after EXE text section." I then remove the extra data from the end of the psexe and test it again in Mednafen. If Mednafen no longer displays any errors, the cracktro should be compatible with most emulators as well.

The psexe file should be renamed to match the patch's name, but with a .psexe file extension. For instance, if the patch is named "bad-s2ks.zip", the psexe file should be named "bad-s2ks.psexe." In the case of a patch for multiple CD's, the naming convention would be "bad-s2ks-cd1.psexe" and so on.

Afterwards, the cracktro needs to be packaged. This involves creating a zip archive that includes all the necessary files to preserve it for future generations.

The cracktro zip archive should include:
* The cracktro .psexe file.
* The original .nfo and .diz files from the patch.
* A screenshot of the cracktro. I typically capture a screenshot using the DuckStation emulator.

The cracktro zip archive should be named after the patch, but with a "-cracktro" suffix. For instance, if the patch is named "bad-s2ks.zip" the cracktro zip archive should be named "bad-s2ks-cracktro.zip."

Finally, the cracktro zip file needs to be uploaded to the scene.org file archive for preservation. Once the scene.org staff has processed the uploaded files, which may take a few days, I add the download links to demozoo.

I get the Can't locate the PS-X EXE entry. Any ideas? I followed the command

ps1ch - 20:30 25 August 2023 #

@ZETHorse: When ppf2psx displays the message "Can't locate the PS-X EXE entry" or outputs a file with 0 bytes, it means the tool is unable to convert the ppf to a psexe file. The tool is not compatible with all patches. I have had the most success using the tool with Paradox, Lightforce, and MUPS patches.

Well, it seems that bad patches were, I guess bad, as the name says. Anyway I bet all of the paradox patches are out there so for the bad I guess we'll have to pick more time consuming method.
