In an interview with Adrenalin #1 he stated As a kid he was active in the Apple II scene in 1985 but abandoned computers once he got his driver's license but entered the IBM scene in 1991.
He became active with the PC BBS software, ViSION in 1990 after its author Crimson Blade got into legal problems and abandoned the software after version 0.83. Taking over the project and renaming it Vision-X (V-X). After some updates, the software was taken over by Ryec who TGR described as an "unbelievable programmer".
TGR and the Vision-X software got embroiled into a long drawn out fight. BAD issue #7 published the userlist, private phone numbers and passwords of ShowDown BBS that ran off Vision-X. BAD, who were notorious trolls, claimed they accessed the board using a backdoor intentionally inserted by TGR into the VisionX BBS software. However, the backdoors were discovered and confirmed in version 0.93 of the software, see Vision-X backdoor Nightmare.
The TGR, together with the The Not So Humble Babe were involved in a major bust with the Secret Service and the FBI. Both arrests caused many in the 313/Detroit area to quit the scene including TNSHB herself. But the TGR reappeared onto the scene not long afterwards, which left a lot of people suspicious of his motives.
