Gor.. How it all began for him.
Well I first starting coding the ST just a few months after I had it, I was no stranger to assembly language, as I used to code on my C64 & Spectrum in the VERY old days.
Anyways it didn't take me very long to learn to code the ST, it's still a much nicer platform to work on than the PC and the Amiga, although I'm sure all you Amiga guys out there disagree. To be honest though, the Amiga had hardware scrolling, and the copper, so most intro effects were too easy to achieve - I expect that had a hand in starting off the 3D demo craze, but anyways I digress.
So there I was, a budding ST coder, with a whopping 20 or so floppy disks (I always hated Star glider too). So the next obvious step, was to go through the computer mags looking for "contacts" (as most of my C64 buddies had moved to the Amiga rather than the ST). Well through a rather complicated process, I ended up swapping disks with a guy from Leeds, who after a few name changes ended up with the nickname of TUF. Eventually I discovered he was a talented artist, so we started writing little demos & intros (none of which were released), and of course we STARTED writing many a game..... never finished any though. Typical coder thing that! =o) Time passed, and my disk collection grew beyond even my 40 capacity disk box. By then TUF had met a guy called Apollo from The Guardians Of Logik, well eventually I joined up with them, and they joined Automation, so I was at last a member of a decent ST group. Some how, although exactly how eludes me now, I got in contact with a guy from Bristol (where I live), called Adrian H, and he said he could put in touch with the Pompey Pirates.
Now at that time the guys hadn't released that many disks, but what they had were of good quality. So by and by, I got in touch with Lawz, and we got on well. Now once again I don't remember exactly what happened, it was years ago after all, but I seem to recall I sent them some demos of my coding, and I was asked to join.
Well obviously I did, so it was bye-bye KAS of The Guardians of Logik/Automation, and hello GOR of the Pompey Pirates. Unfortunately the Alien wouldn't let me stay in both groups, a shame because I wanted to start a slagging war with myself. =o) Sensible lad that Alien I guess....
Before long I had my coveted Pompey Pirate keyring (the thing they never tell you is the bloody things weigh a ton,
and pull your trousers down if you aren't careful), I also got my much fabled Sinclair radio watch from Sledge, which was cool, but sadly fell apart the day I tried to put it on. Of course they day came when I met up with all the guys for the first time, it was at a computer show in London, but that, as they say.... is another story.
