Motiv8

- M8, Motiv 8

Also known as

  • Motiv8 Quality - M8Q
  • Motivate (c64)

Motiv8 was originally a C64 cracking group, formed in January 1994. They were based in Denmark, but with strong foreign sections as well. They released some retro-cracks under the Motiv8 Quality (M8Q) label.

Already in 1994, under the guidance of Mason and Xerox, the group branched out into the PC warez world, being both a release and a courier group until approx. 1999. The story of its PC section can be read here. At the same time, the group still continued cracking on the C64, with the latest cracks stemming from 1999.

Grego, a resident of Texas, was having problems with the FBI around september 1994, on charges of software piracy. September brought some internal problems for the group; first Tricket left and kicked them off his board Dominic, then their leader Crossfire was fired from Pronix Entertainment. Following this Peacemaker, Racoon, Vortex and Curlin all left the group for Alpha Flight 1970; Animal left and finally Fresh Prince was busted by at+t for calling cards (which means he's just swapping from now on) and SMD (gfx) left for Atlantis. The only ray of light in september was the recruitment of a new Danish ehq, Mount Olympus.

Greenfrog opened a www page for the group around september 1995, likely the first ever for a c64 group. Ibanez released his tool "Scroll-Writer V1.0" in december.

January 1996 saw the recruitment of Galactus (sysop Galaxy) from Hardcore and dutch swapper Nuke (who will remain in XL.C.US as his second group), as well as Fresh Prince's return to active duty for the group. An nfo dated 01/13/96 listed Mason, Igor, Entropy, StormSide, Emil1 (seniors), Djz, Irnsteel, NikeMan, Pilgrim (coordinators), 187, Arley, BW, C00L-TeMP, Code Sweeper, Darkevada, dK, Dr. Death, Drapper, G-Beast, Joe00, Manowar, Matricide, Mercur, Mysticus, muks, Nighthawk, Pseudo, RainBow, Thoran, Tpct, Tribal, Tuzi, Xyo (coordinators), Atax, Axhate, Blastman, Brutus, Charger, Darkside, Darksoul, Demonseed, Dizzident, Hander, Havok, Heroin, Jamalz, MasterD, Mercury, Metalfan, Merlin23, Mk, Nohup, Not, Ovd, Pilgrim, Punisher, Sickman, Stownz, Tribal, Vendetta (inet couriers), Acl, Allanon, Chromantiq, Cyber Surfer, Defecation, DSony, Gmoney, Hitman, [ICE], Indigo, Livin, Orbiter, _oMEN, Stoner, WaveRider (bbs couriers) and Outhouse (trial) as members.

In december of 1997, Crossfire and Germans Goat, Mendrake and L.A. Style all left the group for Fairlight.
