Cryptoburners was a Norwegian-based Amiga demo group, formed in 1988 by the two c64 groups The Scandomatic Crackers and TWCA. The original founders were Windwalker and Heatseeker. The very first Cryptoburners production was the demo Crime Time, released at the Razor 1911, The Cartel, Abnormal Party 1988 in september of that year. It came 2nd in the competition. By this time, members were Windwalker, Heatseeker, Trixal, The Warrior, Time Traveller, Headache, Blackstar and The Wiz. Around december, two more members were recruited in the shape of Beatboy and Vectorman.
Cinzano and Superted were recruited in january of 1989. The group held its first real meeting in february, and at the same time The Wiz was terminated from the member roster. March came around, and six members left for the IT, Rawhead, The Band, IMP-666 Megaparty 1989 with their first Megademo - finishing second in the demo competition. Around the same time some hard decisions were made; Superted, Cinzano and Beatboy were all dismissed from the group, and The Warrior died. Also, Headache decided to change his nick to Bimbex. There were now seven members left: Bimbex, Blackstar, Heatseeker, Time Traveller, Trixal, Vectorman and Windwalker. Two months passed, before a second group meeting was held in may at Blackstar's place. A small release was also made and released here, a conversion of the c64 game Gridder. Three members attended the IT, Razor 1911, Abnormal, Hoaxers, Network Gigaparty 1989 and received their first victory in a demo competition with the single-part demo Wild Bunch! A quiet period followed until september, when the group received a pretty big boost with the recruitment of the entire group Ghostriders, spiking the memberlist to more than double what it had been - they were now 15 members! The new members were Aggressor, Bugbear, Crescendo, Jackmix, Kylerion, Orgasmus, Oscon, and Rhesus Minus. Only a few days after this event, a second c64 conversion game was released, Sky Fight. Around september, also Crescendo died. A new onepart demo, Around the World was released in october. Then silence once again fell over the group, and no additional releases were made in 1989.
The collaboration musicdisk Musicparty 1990 in late january was the first release of the year. Another month passed before the release of Fourth Dimension 1, the first Norwegian-oriented diskmagazine. Fourth Dimension 2 was released slightly delayed at the end of may, carrying news that Gladiator, Tec and Walkman were new members of the group, having joined from It. Iq was not mentioned anywhere as a new member, but nevertheless is present on the memberlist in the magazine. The group co-arranged Bergen Party 1990 at the end of june. Fourth Dimension 3 was released in july, and the intro listed the current members of the group as Aggressor, Bimbex, Blackstar, Bugbear, Gladiator, Heatseeker, IQ, Jackmix, Kylerion, Orgasmus, Oscon, RH-, Tec, Time Traveller, Trixal, Vectorman, Walkman and Windwalker.
During the last week of march 1991, the group gathered at Vectorman's place in Bergen, and subsequently released Party Time at Anarchy Easter Conference 1991 on the 30th - announcing their new bbs Midgard in the process. The intro promoted the Amega Party 1991 that was held at the end of june the same year, which Cryptoburners coorganized with Dexion, Fairlight and Violence.
After a spell of relative inactivity, R.A.W 2 caught up with TEC in february of 1992 to check on the group. He explained in an article that the recent lull in activities was mostly due to members doing their military duty (a.o. Heatseeker was facing 15 months in the navy). He could also disclose that a clean-up operation that was in progress, where lazy members would be disposed of - and that Vectorman was one of these people. Tec said there would be an internal meeting at easter, and that no releases would be made before that time. Amonia released Goodbye Dentro in may to announce Tom, Blaze and $DFF180 had left the group for Cryptoburners. The july release Revival marked one year since the last full release, and listed Aggressor, Bimbex, Blackstar, Blaze, Bombadil, Chamaeleon, Dali, Gizmo, Gladiator, Heatseeker, It, Jackmix, Krest, Kylerion, Outland, Rhesus Minus, Shiva, Tec, Time Traveller, Tommy, Trixal, Vishnu, Windwalker and Zero as active members.
