The Gathering 1996 was held at Vikingskipet in Hamar, Norway. It was the 5th The Gathering party, and the 1st at this location. Hamar became its steady location from this year on. After the disastrous 1995 edition, the original organizing team returned. This was also the first year there was an internet connection for the entire party.

Invitations were published in Bad News 4 (april 1996).

Party reports were featured in Showtime 2 (april 1996), Flash #1 (may 1996, in German, with results), Zig Zag Info 3 (1 july 1996, results only) and Excees 1 (29 october 1997).

Results based on results.txt from scene.org. Results are presented here as they appeared in the original file, complete with all the stuff that makes no sense - like the order of the placements in the Fastintro competition. The results also omitted graphics and music competitions, since those were anonymous.
