Razor 1911 (originally Razor 2992) is a C64, Amiga and PC demo and cracking group. Razor was formed in Norway in 1985 by three guys, later known as Doctor No, Insane TTM and Sector9. The group lasted for about a year, creating a few demos and releasing a few cracks. They then broke up, and one half went to TCC, and the the other half (Sector9 and Doctor No) went to Megaforce. This membership only lasted about a month, before both went and joined Active Cracking Crew. They would later come together again in 1987 when they reformed Razor 1911 on the Amiga at the Danish Gold Copy Party 1987 in july - the four initial members were Sector 9 and Dr. No (returning from Active Cracking Crew), Lord Strangelove (aka Lord S) and Hypocrite from Raw Deal Inc. The group was originally based around the city of Trondheim (Sector 9, Dr.No), with a section in the Ålesund established a small while later (Red Baron, Nosferatu, Bug).
The october 1988 pack Cool Demos 2 listed Lord S., Sector 9, Shine, Sir Henry, Doctor No, Ziphoid, Insane and Tracker - indicating that Hypocrite was gone by this time.
The april 1989 demo Boom! Boom! introduced Codex and Animalizer as new members, and announced that Fist and Jettfire had been asked to leave due to inactivity. The group coorganized the IT, Razor 1911, Abnormal, Hoaxers, Network Gigaparty 1989 in june. The group's big break in the cracking scene came after The Accumulators split up in late 1989, and Razor managed to persuade German cracker Onyx and American original supplier Zodact (with his bbs The Castle) to join them. Suddenly they had both originals and crackers, leading to a steady stream of releases until april of 1991.
A shortlived cooperation with Classic was entered into in the spring of 1990. Uncle Tom contributed music to the Paradox demo Freddy's Back in early june. Fourth Dimension 3 (july 1990) reported that sysop Bounty Hunter (later known as Angel of Death) left Classic with School Crime BBS (later Hellfire) to join, and that Norwegian musician Hattrick had left for No Limits. Swedish cracker and coder DiMarz (who coded most of his own cracktros) left the scene this year. Our Best Demos 1988-1990 in october mentioned Darksilver, Fort Knox and Jawbreaker as new members. An internal memberlist dated 22nd of october 1990 - dubbed "Update 9" - listed Sector9, Doctor No, Rex, Bug, Red Baron, Ziphoid, Angel of Death, Sir Henry, Lord Strangelove, Fort Knox, Nosferatu, Zodact and Darksilver as active members at that time, and Onyx, Sim, Murdock, Lasor, Jawbreaker, Insane TTM, Codex, Uncle Tom, Dirk Gently, Ragman, Gerry and Analog Kid as inactive or probationary members. The Norwegian members held an internal meeting in the city of Aalesund between the 16th and the 18th of november. Red Baron, Bug, Nosferatu, Iceman, Rex, Fort Knox, Doctor No and Sector9 were all in attendance. Legendary swedish musician Uncle Tom left the scene in december, and did NOT rejoin Scoopex despite them sometimes claiming he did. His music was used in Scoopex productions beyond this date, but these were old modules Uncle Tom gave to them before leaving the scene. Their board Digital Express (opened by Fort Knox this year) was probably Norway's first elite board, and as such remains legendary on the Norwegian scene.
The april 1991 crack intro for Medieval Warrior mentions The Inner Sanctum is a new bbs, and that the The Pitch is down for good. When the release flood ended in april of 1991, the leaders of the group were getting tired of the Amiga scene. Luckily the solution was near: a great PC cracker called Darwin lived close by the core members, and it was decided to close the Amiga section in favour of a new life on the PC. Only a few members remained, keeping the group alive on the Amiga through this year. Swedish musician Mantronix left for Phenomena around the middle of the year. Faith changed his handle to Faddy and joined Delight late this year. Wide World of Sports Boxing in early october explained in its accompanying nfo; "Spyrit's Crypt is now the new courier home!! 4 Past Midnight is still an affiliate, but Spyrit's Crypt will be the the place that gets the Razor cracks first, along with Crime Ring, our WHQ." The Amiga demo Erazorhead was released early october, immediately followed by the departure of its authors Jawbreaker and Pal for Scoopex. English musician Gamma joined Anarchy in october. Winter Challenge (17 october) wrote "Welcome to our new members: Onyx, Eldar, and The Ghost Wind! Call our new boards including The Revelation". At the very end of october, they welcomed The Surge and Mentasm as new members, and announced 4 Past Midnight was no longer a Razor board.1
Swedish sysop Twister (with his board Flashback) joined from Agile in december. The group's final Amiga demo arrived in the form of Voyage at The Party 1991 towards the very end of december. It contained a full memberlist, listing Mr. T, Zodact, Dave, Codex, 16 Beat, Ziphoid, Twister, The Pie Man, Problem Child, Tripwire, Brain Dead, Fashion Light, Bug, TCM, Joker, King Cobra, Nosferatu, Sim, Drake and Murdock as active members. American sysop Jabbah left sometime between october and december; his board Inner Sanctum was mentioned in Erazorhead, but not in Voyage.
Twister (Flashback) left again in january of 1992, moving this time to Vision. R.A.W 2 (february 1992) reported Wico first left Classic for Razor 1911, then quickly moved on to Scoopex before finally landing in Rebels. Finnish trader Zephyr joined from Amaze, but didn't stay long; he left for The Silents soon after. Cracker Journal 28 (may 1992) featured an article where Mr. T wrote, "I Mr.T/Razor regret to inform the entire Amiga scene that Razor 1911 has died. We are still in existence on Pc Scene however." Psimon and Shocker joined Compact Inc. late in the year. Norwegian Skykiller (sysop of The Maze, ex Fraxion) left for Adept around october. In december of 1992, an Amiga intro called Out of The Ashes was put out - announcing no less than 8 new members and a revitalized Amiga section built by previous members. It was not until march 1994 however, that a real rebirth of the Amiga section would see the light of day. Meanwhile releases were being made on the pc. The release 3d World Tennis (november 1992) came with an nfo that listed Avalon, Azmodeous, Black Spyrit, Butcher, The Chairman, Darwin, Doctor No, Eldar, Excessive Knight, Holy Ward, Hyperion, Intrepid, Jack, Knightmare, Martial Artist, Marko Ramius, Melody Maker, Philosopher, Prime Target, Randall Flagg, Rambone, Razor Blade, Red Baron, The Renegade Chemist, SecTor9, Stingray, The Unknown, The Witch King & Zodact as members, and Bubba, Gangsta Rok, Ur Lord and Wind Walker (senior couriers), Baddog, Beach Bum, Bullwinkle, DEViL, Joebee, Load Master, Messenger of Death, The Phantom, RAiDER, Shadow PhanTom, SuGaR & DuNe (elite couriers), The Black Mage, Ben Jammin, Count Zero, Cubik, Dark Knight, Folksinger, Grave Digger, Sid Vicious, iNTERLOPER, White Rose & Janno (trial couriers) as members of the courier section at that time. In the december release Air Trainer, Red Wizard wrote; "I am a new member of razor. Previously with TPC Trainers which is sadly now deceased." The nfo that came with the release further revealed that Bubba, Ur Lord, Baddog and Cubik were no longer on the member list, while Capitano Nemo, Crack Baby, Czar, D.D., Lord Thinker, Mad Carder, Nocturnus, Sniper & Yexor were new arrivals on the courier member list.
The july 7th 1993 release Bloodstone: An Epic Dwarven Tale came with an nfo that announced "Welcome to our newest board in California, Road to Nowhere! RTN is 4 nodes, all dual standards. Be sure to call and say hello to The Legend! Welcome our newest cracker, Wayward, who is no longer a free lance cracker, now he is in good company with the BEST... Goodbye to Ginnie + our Aussie HQ, The Brewery. Good luck, hopefully you will not be out of the scene permanently!" The new demoscene Razor 1911 on the Amiga was the source of some controversy when it was formed by Colorbird from Illusion, Lizardking and Tony from The Silents and Odeon from Phenomena in late 1993. It was soon argued that their only claim to the name was that Colorbird was once a member. The original Razor had moved to the PC, and wanted the Amiga side to die with their passing.
The january 6th 1994 release Sim City 2000 came with an nfo with several bits of news - "Welcome to our new suppliers - Chessking, Avalon, Rupert, Liquid Khaos, and the famous Lord Thinker .. And welcome to our new coder - Prime Evil. You can check out his cool new intro in this release .. And welcome to our new BBS's - Southern Comfort (615), Mortal Wish (818). Gates of Asgard is no longer Razor 1911 Courier HQ." and went on to list The Renegade Chemist, Marauder, Butcher, Razor Blade & Randall Flagg (senior staff), The Chairman, Wolverine, Westbam, Big Boss, Serpico, Snacky, The Legend, Wind Walker, Hoppermania, Onyx, Mephistar, Mitch, Rambone, Zebig, Laric, Chronic Halitosis, The Hook, Bionomix, Chessking, Avalon & Rupert, Liquid Khaos, Prime Evil & Lord Thinker (staff), Lorus (razor-dox), BuBBLE MAN & Ralph (spreading coordinators), Blitzkrieg, The Brain, The Cardinal, CyberNetic Samurai, Death Certificate, Digital Justice, DuNe, The Dutchmen, Energie & Sky, Fugitive & Obliviax, IceMan, Janno, KnoX, Raider, Skater, Razor Edge, Storm Lord, Sweda Head, Timelord, Rator, Grey Death, Grim, Dream WEaver, Grandmaster Flash & QuaZiModem (elite spreaders) and Skiver, T-Bone, The Inquisitor, Factory, Chain, Qube, Flood & Stubborn (trial). Entity Final Sales (Multilang) Cracktro (march 1994) wrote, "Tons of changes in Razor 1911. Check it out .. Welcome to all new Members, Couriers and Boards" and listed The Renegade Chemist, Butcher, Randall Flagg & Marauder (leaders), The Chairman, Wolverine, Westbam, Big Boss, Serpico, Snacky, The Legend, Wind Walker, Hoppermania, Rambone, Bionomix, Chronic Halitosis, Odin, Chessking, Avalon, Liquid Khaos, Ford Prefect, Dead Goon & Heavy Metal (members), Zebig, Mitch, Martial Artist, Prime Evil, Laric & Mat (coding/training/art), Lorus & Dark Light (dox), Grim & The Brain (courier coordinators), Faldo & The Dutchmen (senior couriers), Janno, The Cardinal, Dream Weaver, Digital Justice, Grey Death, Fugitive & Obliviax, Death Certificate, Nailz, Prophet, Quasar, Timelord, Rage, Cobretti, Raw Liquid, Coroner, Nivek Ogre & Raider (elite couriers), Raffles, Snow, Immortar, Storm Lord, Factory, Marine, Visionary, Stubborn, Godfather, Razor Edge & SLe (trial couriers) as members. Meanwhile, an Amiga "section" appeared in Sweden and debuted with the energetic demo We Shave Ass in march of 1994. It listed Boki, Calypso, Colorbird, Deelite, Diesel, Fazer, Futuremind, Hammer, Jason, Joachim, Limbo, Lionheart, Lizardking, Oden, Odeon, Papillion, Prime, Slash, Some1 and Tony. Swedish coder Boki joined in february, and was kicked in april because he was found to not have produced the demo he claimed he was working on. The group followed up with two productions at The Gathering 1994 at the very start of april; the intro Chaosmaze and the demo Quite Unusual. Norwegian duo Jason and Joachim (both ex Lemon.) were kicked because of too little contact with the rest of the group after a relatively short while, in the early parts of the year. Swedish coder Exidor joined in april, but unfortunately left the scene soon after. Coder of the first edition of Memorial Songs, Calypso, was kicked in may since he had long promised to start coding on the second edition, but never did. Swedish sysop Fazer (with his board Flatline) left due to a harddisk crash. An official newsfile on the Propaganda disk said he joined Delight with his board, while inside the mag itself, it said he joined Millennium. Since the news in the text file seemed a little more up to date than the stuff in the mag, I choose to believe the file. Danes Chorus, Sid (music) and Condor (swap) joined Jewels in the middle of the year. Danish swapper Roscoe (ex Equinox) left mid 94, and joined Bomb! later in the year. The danish ex-Lemon.'ers Futuremind, Papillion and Dr. Gyble were also kicked around mid 94. Slash was allowed to join as a swapper after most of the Danish division left, taking two swappers with them (Roscoe and Condor). However, three weeks later The Pride was recruited, and they no longer needed Slash, so he was subsequently kicked out as well. Finnish swapper and trader John Peel (ex Angels new) joined Desire. In july, Frenchmen Performer and Zebig from the pc section decided to leave to form their own group called Speed. The group attended Assembly 1994 in august, bringing two 40k intros - Psionic's Falu Red Color (2nd) and Factor's Sourcemetery (6th). On the warez side the nfo for Fifth Fleet announced, "Welcome The Intimidator, Merlin, Sun Dancer, Captain Willy, Pagan Lord, The Dark Prophet & Skybum to Razor 1911!" Another demoparty attendance rounded off the year - at The Party 1994 the group brought Falu Red Color II Beta (16th) and I Shot Kurt Cobain (20th).
At the very beginning of february 1995 they state, "Congratulation to Beyond Akira for becoming Razor 1911 Canadian HQ! We also welcome our new dist. site DEAD ALIVE and its Sysop, Brain Dead. King Lear is no longer a part of the Razor 1911 team, and his Razor access is to be removed from all RAZOR sites." and also went on to address recent controversy, "We're sure that the whole scene has already seen The Renegade Chemist's pathetic message at dissolving Razor since King Lear happily posted it on every board in existance. We, the existing, active members of Razor 1911 would like to clarify the group situation. As you can see, Razor is neither dead nor disbanded and despite TRC's audacity and arrogance to show otherwise, we will continue to be the top releasing force in 1995. We give him credit for bringing us together, but we will not let one person take us apart. The Renegade Chemist is not contributing to the current RAZOR supply. We will continue to release with or without TRC. We expect a public apology for the slanderous remark he made with regard to our Senior members. We don't have time for, and we will not tolerate any more lies, rags, and moronic outburts. From now on, our releases will speak for themselves nothing more needs to be said." They went on to list Beowulf, Big Balls, Big Boss, Bit Manipulator, Blackhawk, The Brain, The Cardinal, Celestial Wizard, Dark Overlord, Eos, The GEcko, The Ghost Wind, Hot Tuna, Jack, James Bomb, Lord Thinker, Marauder, Max Xevious, Merlin, Night Blade, Network, Pharaoh, Phoenix, Randall Flagg, The Resistance, The Speed Racer, Wayward, Widget, Wyvern (members), Black Mantle, Captain Willy, Criminal, The Dark Prophet, The Dutchmen, Jester King, Malicious Intent, Pagan Lord, Skybum, Third Son, White Viper (traders), Digital Justice, Elvin Nox, Faldo, Hero, Low Cyl, The Master, Mister Big, Raw Liquid & Toadie (european elite) as members at that time.3 A february 27 nfo welcomed Mr. Skill as a new courier, and added Cameron Hodge, Pitbull, Lunatic Genius, Maverick and Star Gazor to the member list, while at least White Viper was gone. A March 1st nfo welcomed Jack back to the group, and welcomed Tower of Sorcery as their new Courier HQ. On the demo side, Tony made his last demoscene graphics in the april release of Memorial Songs 2. He was subsequently appointed to a fulltime position making graphics for Team 17 in the UK. Swedish coder and editor of 'Propaganda', Colorbird was kicked out between april and may since the rest of the group felt he was becoming increasingly intolerable and arrogant after he moved to Oslo to start working for FunCom in april. The nfo for 1830: Railroads & Robber Barons in april, wrote "We congratulate the following individuals for their promotions to the member positions within Razor 1911: Faldo and Third Son. Razor 1911 welcomes the following new members and new boards: Our new United States HQ: THE SILO. Our new members: The Comanche, Physco Stik, KidCapri, and Zinx. Our new Dist Site: Utopia and it's Sysop, Undertaker." In june, a nfo announced, "We welcome Gumby and High Density to the Razor Internet team!"2 Razor 1911 was part of the organizing team that was going to host Junction 1995 in june, but unfortunately the event was cancelled. Diesel8 became the new main organizer for the demo section. Dalahorse in october would become the revitalized Amiga section's final production. In late november, a new member list revealed Arctic Cat, Cobra, Dr. Magic, Druidkin (director of internet operations), Fatal Error, Evil Current, Hojoe, Hula, Illegal Error, Jock Rockwell, Kilroy, Snake, Sternone, Toast (director of courier operations), Anthrax, Beast, Bitecrash, Captain Blood, Dagobah, Janno, Ralph, Syxus, Ware Maker, Code Zero, Guht, Khufu, Manhunter, Morbid Genius, The Saint and Sir Alf as new members, while Big Balls, Big Boss, Bit Manipulator, Blackhawk, The Brain, The Cardinal, Celestial Wizard, Dark Overlord, Eos, The Ghost Wind, Jack, James Bomb, Lord Thinker, Marauder, Max Xevious, Merlin, Night Blade, Network, Phoenix, Randall Flagg, The Resistance, Wayward, Widget, Wyvern (members), Black Mantle, Captain Willy, Criminal, The Dark Prophet, The Dutchmen, Jester King, Malicious Intent, Pagan Lord, Skybum, White Viper (traders), Digital Justice, Faldo, Hero, Low Cyl, The Master, Mister Big, Raw Liquid & Toadie were all gone since february.4

An nfo for their release of the game Z welcomed Magnetic King and Marbitoz as new members. The Ware Report - October 1996 reported, "Blue Adept, Razor's release coordinator for several months, has left the group, disgusted with the poor performance and bad attitudes of its members. Guys like this are important to the success of Razor, as a large number of Razor releases were to pass through Adept's hands."
Deathmatch Maker for Quake (may 1997) came with an nfo, listing August West, Bad Sector, Bandito, Beowulf, Bigjilm, Blackened, Bleachboy, Bob226, Bunter, Casino Man, Dark Rebellion, Erupt, Faceless, Hetero, Manhunter, Maze, Maverick, Ninja Spirit, OfD, The Pep, Pharaoh, Pitbull, Playboy, The Punisher, Reich, Riddler, Rom Racer, Sir Alf, Spoon, Thirdson, Toast, Vitas, and in the net/bbs section Caserd, Davan, Juice, Savager, Slice, Suspicious Image and Wish Bone as members and that time, and further reported, "Razor 1911 bids Hooligan farewell as he has decided to retire."
Mind Stammer (november 1999) came with an nfo, listing Andromeda, Yozsi, Case, Conan_uk, FireBlade, Graffik, Hetero, Pantaloon, Pantera, Reaper, Smash, Whizzter, Krafton and Mithris as members at that time.
